Why Use a Grit Guard

Anytime you wash the outside of a vehicle, you run the risk of leaving scratches and swirls on the surface of the vehicle’s paint. This risk can be compounded by dirt and grit on the vehicle’s surface, which gets trapped within the mitts and brushes that are used for washing. These trapped particles are then placed back onto the painted surface of the car, which results in scratches and swirls. While we detailers are not exactly doctors, the Hippocratic Oath of “first do no harm” comes to mind.

The technology now exists for anyone who is washing a car to do so in a safe manner, without adding scratches and swirls in the process. This is where a grit guard comes into play. The grit guard is essentially an insert placed into the bottom of your wash bucket that is used to extract any trapped contaminants from the wash mitt or brush. The raised edges of the grit guard trap these contaminants at the bottom of your wash bucket, meaning your wash mitt and cleaning brush are kept pristine; and most importantly, they can now be applied to the vehicle in a scratch-free manner!
